This entire blog is about me. About my life. About how I navigate through life starting at age 25. My biggest hope is that you take something away from my experiences to enhance your own life.
Here’s a little more about me for my readers…
As a Child
I was born in, Iskenderun, a small city in South Turkey, right on the border of Syria. For seven years, I called Iskenderun home. There isn’t much I remember of the early stage of my life. The one thing I remember is running outside to play soccer right after breakfast and not coming back in until it was too dark to see the ball.
Although, I only completed one full year of schooling and was pulled out around the midway point of second grade to immigrate to Brooklyn, New York, I can read and speak Turkish fluently.
I spent close to four years living in Brooklyn. At first, just as any other immigrant, it was difficult for my family and myself. It was hard to make friends since I didn’t know a word of English.
After a few months I became more accustomed to my surroundings, made a bunch of friends and began to really enjoy living in New York. Between the ages of 8 and 12 Brooklyn was my home.
At the age of 12, we immigrate to the country I call home today, Canada. It was quite an adjustment moving from a big city to Hamilton, a much smaller city. I had no trouble meeting people and making friends. I’ve always been outgoing so that helped.
I finished my high school education and decided that is was best for me to move out on my own. I was accepted into the University of Toronto – Mississauga Campus (UTM) and moved out.
Looking back on university life, I see that you really come out of high school without a clue of what true independence means, at least I didn’t. Doing laundry, cooking my own meals, paying for a few bills, and actually having to stay on top of my school work without the teacher babying me along was a huge shift for me.
Nevertheless, I was able to graduate UofT Mississauga and was fortunate enough to find a job right away.
Trying My Hand At Blogging
I’m really doing this for myself. Maybe it will be something I look back on in a few years. Maybe it will lead to something bigger. I don’t know. That’s the beauty of it. I’m putting myself out there with every post for the world to see.
